Creative writing post #1

1. The writer's adage is as follows:Reading is breathing in; writing is breathing out.Why is reading so crucial for a writer? Whenever I've heard writers speak--be it playwrights, novelists, or poets--they talk about the importance of reading. In Pat Conroy's memoir My Losing Season, in fact, he goes into great depth about the books he was devouring at that point in his life and what they meant to him.So, talk about the role of reading to the writer and why it is important. If you disagree, then explain why you think OTHERS think it is important. Write at least 100 words.

I think that reading is important to writers because it demonstrates how to organize thoughts in a way that everybody can understand. Reading is the fastest way to learn new words and develop new ideas about literature. A writer becomes familiar with writing styles that are recognized everywhere as a result of reading many things (such as books, magazines, newspapers...). Skills involved in any job that involves writing will be enhanced if the person who holds the job reads more. In order to convey ideas, you have to be able to write well. In order to become a better writer, you have to be a better reader. This means that in order to convey your ideas in a more efficient way, you must read very frequently.

2. What is something you see in your world that concerns you? This could be something among your peer group, something you see in America, or something you see in the world. What is your interpretation of this topic, and why do you feel that way? Write at least 75 words about it.

A few things in this school really concern me but one of them kind is a bigger problem for me than all the other ones. In this school, almost everybody I have worked with in a group has been very lazy. I think this could be due to the fact that they are tired of high school now that they are in their last year and feel that they can find somebody who still cares enough to do their work for them. I feel that everybody likes to slack off now becuase they think they are already done with high school and just want to go to college. I believe this because I have actually felt the same way at some points this year. Hopefully people will realize that there is still a lot of work to do.

3. What is one piece of art (painting, movie, book, song, whatever) that has greatly inspired you? What is that piece and what about it has inspired you? Explain in detail. Write at least 100 words.

Something that has really inspired me is a song called "Afterlife." "Afterlife" is a song that really makes me think about what I want to acheive in life and what will happen if I don't acheive your goals or if I realize I've have been a bad person. I don't think I've done anything very bad in my life, but after hearing the song I know that I will do anything I can not to regret decisions that can't be reversed. "Afterlife" mentions the feeling of wanting to go back and correct things that you have done in life that you regret. That is something I would never want to feel.

So I'm not entirely sure what I am supposed to comment on, but here goes. First off, I'm writing this post on a Friday afternoon--therefore there's hope that not everyone has given up on trying in school, but I completely agree with the point. I also have lost some motivation to work now that I'm accepted to colleges. As for the song "Afterlife", I think that there are always going to be things we will regret. You can't be a perfect person. That's just my thought.

J-Sons, I like your little analogy about becoming a better writing and that it takes better reading. But I was wondering on the why that happens. Also i completely agree with your second paragraph on Senior laziness, I have started to not like doing the homework and such anymore mainly because I'm sick of High School, you brought a good point and I'm glad you pointed it out.

Alrighty, I really agreed with your first response. It was good how you said writers can't convey ideas on their own, and that they have to read other author's works in order to come up with a brilliant idea. Thats basically what I said in my post. Afterlife, I think I know what song your talking about is that the one by Atmosphere or am I thinking of a totally different song..
