Creative writing post #3

1. Writing a play was better than I thought it would be. The dialogue between characters seemed to flow really easily and the plot kind of unfolded on its own as the play continued. One thing that I wish play format wouldn't limit is the amount of action that can be included. Driving through the woods in a golf cart was very difficult to desribe in my play and I wish I would have thought of other methods of transportation before I started writing. One thing I like about writing plays is that it's easy to describe the characters and setting. You don't have to find a way to make fit them into the story, but instead you can just describe everything exactly like it is (just start a new paragraph with italics...). Writing this play was very easy and straightforward and it was funny hearing some of them in class ("Hello my beautifuls").

2. If I could give any piece of advice to a 10-year-old kid, I would tell them that it is good to have a lot of friends and people you can trust, but you have to be able to do things by yourself sometimes. I have had some experiences working in groups where all of the other members have left me to do the work by myself. A few times, these have been people that I thought were hard workers and I believed would do their share. Now that I have seen these types of things happen, I feel more comfortbale working by myself. Another thing I would be sure to tell them is that you have to choose the people that you associate yourself with carefully. If you are seen around people that are thought of poorly, people will probably assume flase things about you. I know this because I think I pre-judge people occasionally (which I try not to do) and don't give them the chance they deserve.

3. I think that what makes plays great is how they are initially viewed by society. If a literary work makes a good first impression, the people who think it is good will pass on stories about it to other generations. This can continue for hundreds 0f years because we live in a world where tradition is appreciated. I don't know if I could write anything that would last 200 years. I think that people might not understand my sense of humor and at first dislike the literature. Without a good first impression, a literary work is almost done for. People will forget it and it will not be passed on to others.

Creative writing post #2

1. Theme is important in all creative pieces of writing. In fact, I believe that it is the MOST important thing to include in a story. Stories are written to prove a point or to make people aware of things that need to be fixed or things that are already great about the world. In order for a book to be considered a great piece of literature, I think that there needs to be a moral or a theme that ties in with the plot. The best books I have read have all had a clear theme that I can recognize in my life or that I know others can recognize in theirs. People might say that an adventure book doesn't need to have a theme, it just has to keep readers' attention, but I wouldn't agree with them. A great literary work needs to be more than just a plot, it needs to teach readers a lesson.

2. I have a few ideas for a theme that I would use in my play, but I believe in one more strongly than the others. This idea is that hard work always pays off in the end, and the people that persevere and try their hardest will always come out on top. I have seen this proven in real life, such as in sports, where the athletes that train the hardest always end up being the best. The athletes that use steroids often end up getting hurt, while those who don't use steroids normally stay healthy. Working hard is important to me becuase I consider myself a hard worker and have had things pay off for me because of it.

3. One conflict that I will write about will be a conflict involving a person fighting against himself or herself. They will have a mental block that prevents them from believing in him/herself and will have to turn to others to figure it out. Doctors and therapists could be brought in, only to make the problem worse. Maybe the person with the mental block will not be able to work hard because of it. The rest will hopefully develop shortly...

Creative writing post #1

1. The writer's adage is as follows:Reading is breathing in; writing is breathing out.Why is reading so crucial for a writer? Whenever I've heard writers speak--be it playwrights, novelists, or poets--they talk about the importance of reading. In Pat Conroy's memoir My Losing Season, in fact, he goes into great depth about the books he was devouring at that point in his life and what they meant to him.So, talk about the role of reading to the writer and why it is important. If you disagree, then explain why you think OTHERS think it is important. Write at least 100 words.

I think that reading is important to writers because it demonstrates how to organize thoughts in a way that everybody can understand. Reading is the fastest way to learn new words and develop new ideas about literature. A writer becomes familiar with writing styles that are recognized everywhere as a result of reading many things (such as books, magazines, newspapers...). Skills involved in any job that involves writing will be enhanced if the person who holds the job reads more. In order to convey ideas, you have to be able to write well. In order to become a better writer, you have to be a better reader. This means that in order to convey your ideas in a more efficient way, you must read very frequently.

2. What is something you see in your world that concerns you? This could be something among your peer group, something you see in America, or something you see in the world. What is your interpretation of this topic, and why do you feel that way? Write at least 75 words about it.

A few things in this school really concern me but one of them kind is a bigger problem for me than all the other ones. In this school, almost everybody I have worked with in a group has been very lazy. I think this could be due to the fact that they are tired of high school now that they are in their last year and feel that they can find somebody who still cares enough to do their work for them. I feel that everybody likes to slack off now becuase they think they are already done with high school and just want to go to college. I believe this because I have actually felt the same way at some points this year. Hopefully people will realize that there is still a lot of work to do.

3. What is one piece of art (painting, movie, book, song, whatever) that has greatly inspired you? What is that piece and what about it has inspired you? Explain in detail. Write at least 100 words.

Something that has really inspired me is a song called "Afterlife." "Afterlife" is a song that really makes me think about what I want to acheive in life and what will happen if I don't acheive your goals or if I realize I've have been a bad person. I don't think I've done anything very bad in my life, but after hearing the song I know that I will do anything I can not to regret decisions that can't be reversed. "Afterlife" mentions the feeling of wanting to go back and correct things that you have done in life that you regret. That is something I would never want to feel.
